The Blue Blazer

To the left we have an engraving from the XIXth Century of Professor Jerry Thomas in the process of mixing his own creation, the Blue Blazer. It appears that the Professor is hurling liquid fire from one mug into another and, in fact, that's just what he's doing! Having heated the mugs with boiling water for three minutes, the Professor has then combined in one mug boiling water and sugar, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. In the other mug, the Professor has poured three ounces of warmed whiskey, ignited the whiskey and then, while the whiskey is ablaze, poured it into the first mug of boiling water and sugar. He then pours the entire mixture back and forth, still blazing, from one mug to the next until the flames are extinguished. Professor Thomas is also credited with the creation of the martini!
