The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, translated by Edward FitzGerald, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1987.
In a previous post I've mentioned that the Rubaiyat was a incredibly popular book in the 1890s. This edition is the fourth Mosher Press edition since the first printing in 1895. Part of the Old World Series, this edition is a small 8vo, with cardstock covers, yapped edges, one of 925 on Van Gelder paper. The cover and interior decorations are done by Charles M. Jenckes. Essays on FitzGerald Irving May and on Omar Khayyam by FitzGerald himself are included as well as notes on the variations of the text and bibliography. The text of the first (1859) and fourth (1879) editions are displayed on either page and there's a considerable difference in translation! A lovely and charming book which shows what Mosher was capable of.
