A Literary Birthday

Today we send birthday salutations to Welsh writer Roald Dahl, quote: Happy Birthday, Gate! unquote.

Dahl is justly famous for his juvenile fiction, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and The Big Friendly Giant, among others. He also wrote fiction for adults, Switch Bitch being the one I remember right at the moment. There was a bitter quality to his fiction, even in his children's novels and it was clear that he had a few axes to grind.
