Semiotics: Just What Is It?

Like Post Modernism, Semiotics seems to be some peculiarly nebulous notion which could be anything or, perhaps, nothing. The concepts behind both Post Modernism and Semiotics seems elusive and diaphonous ... always just out of one's grasp. Still, I find both concepts terribly fascinating.

Those who might be intrigued by Semiotics can read a beginner's primer on the subject which lays out the ideas in a very understandable form. You won't be surprised to know that Semiotics has its origins in France (is it still fashionable to blame everything on the French?) and has been picked up and expanded upon by Ivory Tower intellectual types. Well, good gracious! It won't go over in Kansas, I tell you!
