Two More Thomas B. Mosher Books

Two more books published by Thomas B. Mosher arrived this week:

From the Hills of Dream, Threnodies, Songs and Other Poems, by Fiona MacLeod, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1907, third edition, one of 925 copies. This is listed in the frontispiece as being part of the Old World Series, but it is quite different from the typical volume in the Old World Series. Rather than a cream colored cardstock cover, From the Hills of Dream has a blue-grey paper over cardboard cover boards and a cream colored paper spine label. I'm not sure if Mosher was experimenting with styles or if this book was part of a sub-series. Fiona MacLeod was part of the Celtic revival of the 1890s and these poems are mysterious, dark and rather doomy. Fiona MacLeod was the nom-de-plume of William Sharp and Sharp was none too pleased that his works were appropriated by Mosher for publication in America.

Dante At Verona, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1910. Dante At Verona is one of Mosher's pretty Ventian Series, a 24mo, featuring floral patterned dust jacket over thin cover boards. An illustration of Dante, I presume by Rossetti, is tipped in. An attractive little volume in a series I would like more of.
