The Ever-Expanding Mosher Book Collection

Greetings, Gate. Let's peruse the latest additions to my collection of books published by Thomas B. Mosher of Portland, Maine.

The New Life (La Vita Nuova) by Dante Alighieri, translated by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1896. Early editions of Mosher's books featured monochrome illustrations and this edition of La Vita Nuova has a monochrome reproduction of D.G. Rossetti's Dante's Dream at the Time of the Death of Beatrice tipped in. This edition is part of Mosher's "Old World Series." This is the oldest Mosher book I own.

Aucassin & Nicolete, "Done Into English" by Andrew Lang, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1899. Another in the "Old World Series," this edition also features a monochrome title-page illustration, reproduced from the original 1887 edition and curiously dated '1837,' and three interior illustrations by Jacomb Hood. This is a highly sought after edition and is a typical tale of doomed Medieval love.

Some Great Churches in France, Three Essays by William Morris and Walter Pater, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1900. This is one of 425 eiditons and printed on Japan vellum. Japan vellum is a semi-thick cardstock with a mildly textured surface.

Laus Veneris by A.C. Swinburne, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1900. This is an unusual volume in the Mosher catalogue, measureing 2 inches wide by four inches high, green fabric covered boards with gold embossing on the cover. I've no idea if this was part of a series or a special edition as no indication is given.

Hand and Soul by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, published by Thomas B. Mosher, no date indicated. This is another curious volume, 2 inches wide by four inches high, grey/black textured paper over boards with simple silver embossing on the cover. From the "Little Prose Masterpieces" series.

Silhouettes by Arthur Symons, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1909. Another volume in the "Old World Series" featuring the charming poetry of Arthur Symons.

Denys L'Auxerrois, An Imaginary Portrait, by Walter Pater, published by Thomas B. Mosher, 1918. One of 425 copies, printed on Japan vellum.
